“Mile Sur Mera Tumhara”(“When my tune and your tune merge, it becomes our tune”) was a public service message created by India’s national TV channel in 1988. It featured leading public figures of the time, singing about India’s unity in diversity, in 14 languages.
Any Indian my age would still get goosebumps watching this video. It’s something we all grew up with. A reminder of simpler times. Although it’s still inspiring, I guess it makes me sad to know that no one really got the message…the country is being butchered into so many factions based on exploitation of diversity by heartless politicians with their own agendas. And we’re standing by and watching.
